On Friday K and I went to a farewell party for a Command Sergeant Major in his battalion. I have decided to abbreviate our names in posts from now on, Gossip Girl style. The party was a potluck-type deal at a Lieutenant Colonel’s house which was very very nice. They had a bunch of tents and tables set up in the backyard from which you are staring directly at the mountains that were very close (these people had a hot tub on their deck too- what an amazing view to look at while relaxing!).
It was fun for me because I got to meet some of the people K works with. There was one guy who is from Minnesota but is a die-hard Michigan fan so he was giving me a hard time about being a Buckeye. Another one of K’s coworkers is married to a girl from Lakewood. It’s a small world, huh? She was really nice and helpful, telling me things about finding jobs and FRGs and other Army stuff.
On Saturday, K and I went to work out at a gym on post. We randomly decided to go to the grocery store afterward and ended up purchasing meat and vegetables to make shish-kabobs. We were ready to give grilling another try. On our first attempt, we didn’t use enough charcoal, our food didn’t cook all the way and the George Foreman had to be used. This time, everything went perfectly. We ended cooking up quite the feast of shish-kabobs with peppers, onions and mushrooms, redskin potatoes and corn on the cob- everything on the grill. I’ve only had corn on the cob cooked on the grill a few times in my life and this time it was SO good. Oh, and we had watermelon too. We both agreed this was the best dinner we’ve made since I’ve been here. We were very proud of ourselves as you can tell.
I have been really spoiled with all the time off K got for his eye surgery. Unfortunately, today it’s back to reality!
