K got a long weekend for MLK Day. We decided this would be a perfect time for a little ski get-away. We drove up Friday morning, stayed overnight in a little town called Silverthorne, and drove back Saturday night. This is the first time we’ve been skiing where it wasn’t freezing, cloudy and snowing. Instead, it was sunny with temperatures right around freezing which believe it or not, made it feel “warm” outside. It was a fun time. Normally while we are going up the ski lift or on top of the hill, I am concentrating so hard on how I need to ski down without face planting that I don’t notice much else. This time, I purposefully tried to focus on all the beautiful scenery surrounding us.
I think my skiing skills are slowly improving and K is definitely feeling very comfortable. He is going on blue hills and even when he was going on the greens with me, he was getting a little fancy. In certain spots snow will pile up and he started doing jumps off these mini bumps! I am pretty sure I saw him attempting to ski backwards at one point as well. On Friday night we ate at a restaurant called The Dam Brewery. K got chili made with buffalo meat rather than beef and we both tried some of the restaurant’s hand crafted beer. We also stopped at an outlet mall in the town before heading back and resting to prepare for the next day of skiing.
We spent the rest of our long weekend relaxing and getting ready to start the week!
