I felt sort of like a little kid yesterday. The reason? My dad and I went to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo! We were dazzled immediately upon entering by a herd of giraffes that could be fed crackers and touched. It was so awesome to be right next to these graceful animals.
Maybe it’s because I haven’t been to a zoo in a while, but I was mesmerized by all the animals. We saw gorillas and monkeys swinging around, wrestling and playing. We saw wolves being fed and mountain lions climbing around. I think my favorite part was watching some river otters swim and play- they were absolutely so adorable. I took a lot of pictures- these ones show Scar from Lion King, a peacock that we saw several times just strolling around the zoo and trying to get into various buildings, a wallaby and a barn owl named Hoosier:
Also, this cat wanted to kill us (it looks like a house cat but this thing is clearly a wild beast):
Look at these river otters (but ignore our reflections!):
After the zoo, my dad and I stopped to see the Broadmoor Hotel. This is a very fancy schmancy place. We walked around a bit in the lobby and some of the ballrooms. Everything was so luxurious and beautiful and art covering the walls explains the history of the hotel. What started off in 1891 as a casino for gold miners is now a sprawling luxury resort. I don’t think I will be staying there any time soon (or ever!) but it is definitely something to see. We did stop in at a small bar called the Golden Bee. This is more of a casual place where you can buy yards of beer and listen to a piano player. In a weird coincidence, we discovered that our waitress once lived in Lakewood! We found this out when she carded me, ha ha! They also throw these little sticky bees at you which I thought was a really cute touch. I really want to take K there when he comes home! I also want to take him to the zoo but unfortunately there are no yards of beer to lure him there.
My dad hasn’t fed me chocolate cake for breakfast yet, but we did have some root beer floats, whoo!
